You are such a brilliant reader. You got my attention. I answered your question in the post and here too.

You simply create an empty text file and name it ics extension at your destination folder. You then choose the file from the browse button. Hope that help.

I noticed you may have stopped checking comments at this article about syncing Lightning and GCal (http://www.terencechang.com/2008/10/22/sync-google-calendar-with-thunderbird-lighting-travel-with-google-calendar/). I have the same question as Dan posted:

In step 5, when we browse for a file, what file are we browsing for? I get stuck on that. I select my Google Account from the top drop down list, then the calendar, then what for the iCal file? Otherwise great article, this is exactly what I’ve been looking for. I hope you can help me get this working.
