Why do I like SPAM? It doesn’t hurt to know that you are stupid!

Do you like SPAM? I am sure that I do! I always carry a can of SPAM with me to camp. It’s so salty and so delicious that help me recovering from the exhausting hike. However, SPAM has been a very serious problem on this blog and few of my other blogs.
I guess that SPAMMER never read my comment policy. Just like people don’t read the cover on the SPAM can. Regardless SPAM Lite, SPAM regular or SPAM Turkey, they are all the same. They are SPAM! If you are one of the guy like to be a spammer, you know your comments will be deleted. If you are fighting for spam, you should at least give your blog some minimum protection. Read the add spam protection policy that I post a long time ago.
Are you a stupid spammer, who do not read my comment policy? Then don’t read.
Here are some of the characters that make you a spammer by leaving a spammy comments on my blogs.
- Don’t read my blog - You leave comments about selling penis enlargement supplement and you can’t reduce your spam.
- Can’t spell my name - Don’t you read my domain name? I am not Terry, Terrance, Terrence and not even Tourism or Terrorism. I am Mr. Chang. Not Mr. Change, Ms. Change or not even Miss Chance.
- Can’t find contact form - Leave a comment telling me that you are sorry, because you can’t find my contact form.Yup! You should be sorry to yourself. You just got your comment deleted!
- Multiple URL from the same IP - Do you know what IP is?
- SEO in your email or name - You make my job too easy. You are identify yourself as a SPAM.
- Your web site sucks - Yes. Your site looks just like SPAM products in the store. It’s useless unless it’s used for getting fat.
- You don’t speak English or Chinese - Why should I allow your comment while I don’t understand you? Will you read my Chinese comment on your blog calling your stupid?
- Link to marketing landing page - Shame on you! You are not even closer to be a true Internet Marketer.
If you have read this far, you know you are not going to be stupid. I like smart people and I like to promote smart people. If you are stupid enough to get my attention, you got my attention. You win and you will be deleted!.

I have noticed the spam has increased dramatically over the last week. One of my posts in particular gets the exact same spammer a few times a day. As opposed to drugs, it is advertising tire sales, which I thought was at least different from the norm. But spam none the less.

I watch my comment very closely. I don’t want to miss comments that is truly a comment. However, I have collected over 1000 spam comments in the past 12 months.

I get ya, it is so annoying to find your blog filled with stupid comments, almost as if they were intruding in your own home! A few months ago I could get really upset about it, but now I just hit the delete button and don´t even think about it anymore. It is just not worth the trouble.
Gotta say though, if somebody does offer a great comment, even though they leave a keyword in their name, I don´t mind anymore, after all, if it adds something valuable to my post, so be it

If you called yourself Mr. Change, you might boost the popularity of your blog these days.
Akismet works well for me. The only problem I have is the bug in the Show Top Commentators plugin that lets spammers steal a spot. Fortunately, I keep an eye on it and am typically able to delete the spam links pretty quickly.

Yea, it’s really annoying! Just last week suddenly my email was flooded by comment notification which I don’t really know the language. Now I need to think of using a spam filter for my wordpress blog. What kind of spam filter plugin do you use?

Yup! People keep asking me what in the world I have a last name “Change”. I don’t mind people who made a great comment for exchanging link or traffic. However, majority of them are straight spammer.

You are right. I should probably “change” to Mr. Change! I finally change my first name from Te-Jen to Terence. Now people keep calling me Terry! What’s the point to change my firstname, in that case!
Akismet does work great for me. It captures a lot of spammer in the past. Some of them are coming back with a brand new IP. So I have to keep eye on them.

Akismet is fine! I do also pay attention on where the comment are submitted and how they got to my blog at first place. If the are from search engine with keywords like Internet Marketing, Do Follow, Top commentator plugin .. They pretty much identify themselves as a spammer. Thank you for stopping by!

I wouldn’t consider that all keywords in the name field to be SPAM. I use this technique all of the time when posting comments. I try and offer something to the comments section, and by doing so feel that most bloggers are okay with rewarding their comment users with the link.

Thank you for stopping by! I am not saying using keyword in the name field are spam. 99% of the cases, it’s obvious SPAM comment with SEO as part of the name and email. The person who left comment has no desire to communicate with the blog author. They just want other readers to know what web site they are promoting and what they do for living. They simply wants backlinks!
Many spam comments with SEO in the name and email are promoting different web sites in a short period of time. The comment won’t make any sense. I don’t mind to link to other web sites, but it won’t make sense to SPAM my readers.
If you are really a reader and want to contribute your opinions, why don’t you use your real name?

I hear you Terence, but why not kill two birds with one stone? I mean, I can participate as part of a community AND also help myself by getting a link back. Now, you are right, most often SEO or Marketing within the name is a sign of SPAM, but not all the time:) If the comment is relavent, I don’t see a problem with it. Maybe it’s just me…

Well. Kill two birds in one stone means to delete an innocent comment and spam comments all at once. I have more spam comments on this blog than meaningful comments. If I don’t have time to identify or rescue the innocent comments (like your comment) from my spam folder, they will be deleted automatically.
I don’t mind to give credit back to those who contribute their thoughts, but I would rather feel sorry to kill innocent comments than feel sorry to myself later to fix the damages caused by the spam comments. If you are real SEO expert, you know what bad link building practices are all about. Building page rank won’t help you getting traffic. Without quality traffic, page rank 10 means nothing to me.

I think maybe we’re off track here a little bit. I am not saying to not delete SPAM comments by any means. Delete away! I am just saying, not everyone that uses a keyword in their name field is spamming. I think I am proving that, at least I hope so:)
Your post is right on, and SPAM is incredibly annoying. I was ONLY saying that not everyone that uses keywords for their name is SPAM. That was my only point. If they use keywords in their name, and then offer no real worthwhile comment, then it should be deleted. Simple as that:)

Hi there,
upon reading your article I suddenly became compelled to make a comment or was that your intention. I even read your readers comments, do you not moderate your incoming because most of the above look like spam to me. Anyway great concept and I guess you got it off your chest. Here is a thought since everyone leaves their email address when they post, why do you not just spam those pesky spammers back. See you in SEO WARS!

How are you? It’s been a while, but this story got me to stop by - though I got an email notifying me of a new comment and I’d never commented on this post, so maybe there’s a problem with Subscribe to comments. No matter, I’m glad I got the email!
All good points. I’ll admit to being a borderline spammer sometimes, on DoFollow blogs, but I always leave a decent comment, unlike some others. I’ve been busy pressing the delete key as well! I see your back to Nofollow now, but fair enough… Take care Terence.
