Weekend Confession 13 – One simple goal – One Year Challenge

One Tree Hill

Not a while ago on my 40th birthday, I set my big goal to achieve really big dream in one year. It’s a big challenge that many people think I am crazy and stupid. They thought that I am going to make the same mistake like many other “get rich quick” losers. I never say it’s going to be easy. I am not siting on my butt and explain why I won’t be one of them. I have a plan. I take action!

I have been working very hard on it, making great progress and pretty much put my blogs behind. I felt sorry for those who come by and trying to find some new stuff. I still reading my favorites blogs everyday and getting motivation from those great blogs about life, business and entrepreneurship. I have learned so much from those blogs.

I recently read one articles about business with an intriguing title. I left comments on the blog about my personal experience. I did not mean to hurt anyone’s feeling with my comment. Obviously, everyone read my comment differently. I was flamed by the writer accusing me for insulting her, who I respect for a long long time. I felt very sorry about hurting her feelings. I did not mean to become a BS axx hole.

I was also criticized by her about my experience in the business world. Shame on me! I didn’t stand up to fight and explain my background. I appreciate her criticism! Let’s move on! I don’t have time to argue that anymore. I am going to prove that I achieve my goal! That’s what matters to me!

I truly believe that you don’t have to have business background to be a really successful business man. Of course, a strong business background will help. You can learn as much as you can while working your way to it. You can also hire the right people to do things that you can’t do. I think the most important thing is that you take action and learn from it.

While I am still working on my web site programming, I am also planning many things that have to be done.

  • Setup a new company, tax ID and bank account
  • Setup new company web site
  • Hire a graphic designer for all logo, marketing material, and banner ads
  • Set beta site lunch on January 1st, 2009
  • Get in touch with local TV stations, Radio Stations and news media – Do you know anyone has power in the news media? Please let me know!
  • Making connections to my targeted audiences.
  • Join the affiliate agency and integrate that into the site
  • Hire iPhone app and Facebook app developers – Contact me if you are one of them!
  • Get advices from the business people I trust about business document and operation
  • Set web site lunch day before attending Web2.0 Expo in SF in March 2009
  • Prepare introduction video to post on YouTube
  • Attend national conference and entrepreneur network for the prime time

I know! That is not all. I am working on it!

    hey Terence!
It is always so nice to visit your blog, it seems we kind of think in the same way, I to think you have to set your mind on something, then take action and make it work! Thank you for leaving your comment on my post, you always prove to be very encouraging and that really helps me.

I feel you are right saying that when it comes to challenges it is about yourself, challenging yourself to achieve better results, no matter the area in life you choose to challenge yourself at.

Funny thing though about challenges, it wasn´t until I started my public blog, that I actually started to take my online business way more serious and eventhough there will always be bumps in the road, atleast I know where it will lead to know ;)

Thanks again, just for being here, and I wish you all the success with your own challenge, you deserve a great end result!

  2. Wow- sounds like you have a plan… as far as media goes I have found from 5 years of owning a web development company and many more years in volunteer work, that one does not need connections to get their story in print media. If you are enthusiastic about what story you are pitching them and it’s newsworthy they’ll print anything. I have never had any problems getting the media to print something. Don’t know about radio and television however.

As far as this other blogger goes, personally I think most people are looking for something to be bent out of shape about… somehow I doubt your comments were that inflammatory. Maybe I’m wrong though and you are a jerk…

Anyway sounds like you have a plan- the only thing to stop it perhaps is a lack of motivation.

I love your blog since day one! It gets me going on my journey. I found myself in the loop of try and errors. I did not make up my mind on what is the greatest way and greatest chance to succeed. I realized that I was not very serious on what I am doing. I gave myself excuses not to succeed by not setting the goal difficult enough.

Anyway, thank you for stopping by!

First of all! Nice blog of yours! Thank you for the great point about media. I was thinking an inexpensive ways to get attention from media. Now I have some ideas how to get to it. Thanks!

I have never tried to become a jerk in my life. I always try to be nice. Obviously not everyone appreciate that. Yes. I have a plan. A plan that is actually written on paper now. Do you still own the web development company? How is it doing now?

Are you making jewelry and selling on eBay? They look very good! :-) You just got yourself a new subscriber.

I just thought about your non-profit organization few hours ago! I would love to see you wearing a t-shirt with my new site’s logo on it while doing your exercise and race. I am thinking to give away free account to all non-profit organizations in exchange of getting more exposure to the public. That’s part of my marketing plan. I still need to get more details and advices from friends like you!

My new project is a for profit organization, but it is built to help other people first. So they are willing to pay me! I have many huge competitors to catch up! It will also works for your guest house business as well. Not to worry! You will get a free account for life! I promise!

I just shared my idea to few of my very close friends. They all got very exciting about it. There are many difficulties on my way, but I am working on it. It’s simply a stupid idea and not a rocket science! It’s just something so stupid that big corporation won’t take on it. So I have my chance to fill in the market!

    Stay tune!

good to see that you continue to dream big. sad when you find people who no longer feel that their lives hold the potential for excitement, or grand experiences.

Right! Many people lost their interests on what they do everyday. I keep my faith and move on everyday. Thank you for stopping by!

  9. Determination and focus are everything, if you can stay focused on this project the entire year without deviating I’m sure you will make a success out of it.

  10. One question about this that’s now bugging me – what’s the site going to be based around? I can’t wait for the finished product so give us a shout when it’s launched, okay?
