If you watch Alexa Traffic Ranking closely like I do, you probably notice that the traffic ranking was not updated for few days. Today, Alexa has made significant changes to their traffic ranking system. They claim that the ranking system will be more accurate by collecting more data from multiple sources from all over the world.
Alexa Traffic Ranking has been used by many bloggers, web sites and pay per click advertiser to determine the amount of traffic a web site is getting. They will them decide the value of the web site. I have post many articles about Alexa Traffic Ranking and StumbleUpOn. I was using both to gain a lot of attention on the Internet. Now the traffic ranking world is changing.
Will the Alexa Traffic ranking kill StumbleUpOn?
In the past, I have gotten so much traffic from StumbleUpOn, which indirectly boost my Alexa Traffic Ranking. I did not use the traffic ranking to gain any revenue through PPC advertise. However, it was my experiment and observation to see how easy you can manipulate Alexa Traffic ranking by using StumbleUpOn, Digg and many other black-hat tricks. Now those old trick and Alexa toolbar trick will no longer be useful.
In my posts, I talked using Alexa Traffic ranking to evaluate my competition web site’s traffic. In many case, my e-commerce stores has out perform my competitor’s stores. I also use Alexa Traffic Ranking to see they grow rate in the past. This gives me a lot of information about how their business is doing.
With the new changes, you Alexa traffic ranking will be more accurate. Just recently, I found one of my test blog’s traffic ranking dramatically dropped. That site has been getting a lot of StumbleUpOn traffic as sole traffic source. It indicates that StumbleUpOn traffic is no longer play important role to gain traffic.
The site effect is that those who tend to use StumbleUpOn as the traffic booster tool will give up StumbleUpOn. Or just don’t use StumbleUpOn that much any more. If I am correct, we should see StumbleUpOn traffic ranking drop as well.
Personally, I have been using StumbleUpOn for a while and have so much fun with it. I have made some great connection and friendship with StumbleUpOn. I am not giving it up. I think my experiment is finished. You can still add me as your StumbleUpOn friends. I am sure you will like my collections of sites.
What do you think about the Alexa Traffic Ranking System changes? Will that stop you using StumbleUpOn?

Hi Terrance, As already knows Alexa is not much more important and Alexa is giving Rank higher based up on the clicks the particular website got, whether it’s unique or returning.
The best example is peperonity.com, this is the mobile wap community before 8 months it’s rank was about to 22 k to 23 K and now it’s in between 11 to 12 k.
Stumple upon is very good site and i always like to used it. Thanks for the the nice post again.

Actaully I can’t agree with ya,stumbleupon is same as other organic sites, nothing different. The new alexa just get rid of the result from alexa toolbar, which means might be most of stumbleupon users have set up alexa toolbar on their computers, that’s it.

When it comes down to it, I’m an affiliate marketer. I have private ads up at my site but they can go anytime without me missing them. It seems that’s all Alexa rank will do for me. Get me higher payments for ads. I figure using SU might get me subscribers and people bookmarking my site to come back. It has happened before. I might even get mentions in other blogs. SU is still worth it. And after I got over the initial “Whoa is me”, I realized I don’t really care much about Alexa. I have stats and Quantcast.

@James:
I like StumbleUpOn, because I met a lot of great friends there and I enjoyed to see what other people see in photography world.
@Life on Mars:
You are right. I think my observation is solely from the result of StumlbeUpOn. I have a site, which was getting huge traffic from StumbleUpOn only. Yesterday, it’s Alexa Ranking dropped dramatically. I think Alexa drop the stats from ToolBar will make some of the sites from China disappear from the top 20 sites list.
@Stephen Miller
I have not got so much luck to convert stumbler to my subscribers. Well. I know I have convert many BlogCatalog friends into my Stumble friends. I use Alexa ranking to watch for those competitors. Even Alexa ranking is not very accurate, but it does tell you the overall growth rate and traffic about a site. Especially, when the site is within the top 90K.
I hope the new ranking can be more accurate, so it will help me to get more meaningful statistics.
Thank you all for stopping by!

I think any impact on the usage of StumbleUpon will be minimal. Frankly if any site is relying on StumbleUpon to provide worthwhile traffic and conversion then they’re struggling in any case. The value of SU isn’t really in the traffic it drives but in the fact that it’s a great resource and one of the more *fun* social media tools around.

Thank you for stopping by first. I have to admit that I was so addicted to StumbleUpOn traffic when I discovered the power of StumbleUpOn a long time ago. I spent a lot of time research on that. Now I still getting some good traffic on some of my post related to StumbleUpOn.
Yes. Like you said, I also have so much fun with StumbleUpOn. I have found over thousands awesome photos that make me very happy.

This is an interesting question you’ve posed, but I don’t think many Stumble users care that much about Alexa. You’re assuming that anyone actually cares about Alexa.
I find Stumble traffic to be quite valuable by itself, regardless of any other metrics it may affect. Those visitors can turn into subscribers, click an ad, or just give a thumbs up and bring in more visitors.

I get quite a bit of StumbleUpon traffic on several of my sites, and none of them decreased after the change. In fact, most improved significantly.

@Andrew:
Thank you for visiting. I think the good quality content will bring those good things together. Otherwise, stumbleUpOn traffic is just a short term solutions. I think you are right. Most stumbleUpOn user don’t care about the Alexa traffic ranking. I had fun with it for a while.
@Stefanie:
Good for you! I think stumbleUpOn traffic will die down if there is no one thumb up in a period of time. I am still getting stumbleUpOn traffic on some of my pages alone. My test site die down when no one thumb up on it, it’s Alexa ranking drop. Thank you for visiting!

Hi Terence - I think many people do still figure Alexa as being important, including advertisers. And many people have found SU to be a useful resource for increasing their Alexa ranking. But I’ve noticed that some bloggers stats have plummeted significantly, so they were obviously putting all their eggs in one basket.
Stumblers don’t seem to hang round so long, but some do return or subscribe, so I think many people will still use SU, but they will probably invest some of their time in other marketing ativities too.
I will still use it. I find better things to read on SU than I do by searching Google.

@Cath Lawson:
Thank you for coming back. Haven’t seen you for sometimes. Regardless the Alexa ranking, I really enjoyed using StumbleUpOn. I have seem a huge difference after eBay bought StumbleUpOn. I am hoping to see some new features in the future.
