This is another weekend confession that gives me a chance to see where I was up to. Just about few hours ago, I was sitting in a local event called “Millionaire Club“. There were about 130 people in the lunch meeting. The goal of this local meetup meeting is to make 1000 millionaires in the next 5 years. This is the third meeting since two great successful business man Jim Engel and Brett Tanner started the local meetup group. It’s a great meeting. It’s also one of the best local events I have attended so far.
Best of all, it costs me only $12 to get million dollar worth information.
No. It’s not another local event about joining the real estate game. This meeting has nothing to do with selling or buying properties. The speaker Russell Shaw is well known as one of the top 30 realtor in the country. He is also the number one Realtor in Arizona. Of course, this is not about his success business. It’s about how he works his way up to what he is now.
It’s all about how you set you goals, work on it and get it! It was a 1 hour speech and 2 hours lunch. It’s also a great social networking event for me. I got chance to meet with some real millionaires. So here are some of the great points that I want to share with you.
How to become who you dream to be?
- Name you goal - Set the exactly name of your goal, which you want to achieve. The goal has to be very clear and narrowed. A bad example is to travel around the world sometimes in the future, which I always dream off. It’s a dream, but not a goal. A firm goal is something like this. To make $7,200 net profit per month by selling merchandise on the Internet within the next two years. That will save me enough money to travel around the world for 3 years.
- List what to do - Now I have a clear goal. I just need to list out what to do to get there. The list of to-do has to be feasible. More importantly, it has to be creative.
- Go get it - Just do it! Learn from the mistake and adjust your to-do list.
OK. It all sounds easier than done. That’s right. There is a lot of information that I have to digest. Basically, you have to have a strong faith that you can reach your goal. If you have one small piece of doubt, you will never be able to make it.
OK. Now I have sit down and set my goal and list what to do. How about you?

As a small business owner, starting a business is all about direction and planning. The moment when I knew I wanted to start my own business, I was already setting goals and looking to achieve them. To me, goals are just guidelines and without realistic goals, I am defeating myself, not sure if u guys agree with me. I have put my goals on a written note book. I also realized that when I put them in writing, I actually formalize it and remember them. It’s like taking notes during a lecture; you can just listen, but you don’t retain as much information as when taking notes. Rarely do you see goals realized if they are not written?
Somebody had ever told me that I should set my goals at a three-to-five-year horizon when starting out & I quite agree with her. I am always moving forward & tell myself that I should set my goals for the future, not just the first year of business. In some small businesses, short-term goals are realized very quickly, it depends on your market, your customer base, and your products or services. I also have my goals on a written piece of paper and pasted it on the bedroom wall, it’s a personal preference. I could also have it post it on the living room wall, whichever way suits me. It really boosts my fighting spirit each time when I revisit my goals on that piece of paper.

Did anyone talk about how many goals to set? Just curious because it’s hard for me to focus on more than a handful.

That sounds like a great idea. I wish there were something like that in this area…perhaps it’s a great opportunity to start something new!

In my life coincidences keep popping up all the time. I am just now deeply into reading a book which I decided to after watching a TV program by Oprah Winfrey and the topic is exactly what you are now posting. I guess that your post is a message to me to get a move on too! Good post. Thank you.

@Minxt:
Those are great tips. I also believe to set goal for the next three years will make it more feasible. Thanks!
@47:
I only have one big goal with small goals for each steps. I am in the process to redefine my goals after attending the meeting. The goal has to be exactly.
@Dining Tables:
I am glad that I attended the millionaire club meeting. It shocks me on how much useless goals I have listed on my notepad. None of them seem to feasible. They are just the dream not the goals.

Hey Terence - really inspirational. The only thing I see missing from your numbered list is “Hard work…”

@Mark:
That’s right. Thanks for reminding me! Without SMART hard working, no dream will come true!

Terence, I forgot to thank you here for the great post so that I have the opportunity to share with you guys about my goals and how I can successfully achieve them individually.
Honestly, I have about close to 20 goals in my current list. I revise them as and when needed. So far, I have only achieved 5 “quality goals”. Most of them are related to my business. I have set a duration to achieve each goal. When each goal is materalized, I would pamper myself at luxurious spa clinic for a body or facial treatment. Those 5 goals took me nearly two (2) years to achieve, too long but worth it. Others goals in the list are issues related to my personal welfare, well-being. I think some goals in the list will never be achieved but I won’t give up easily. Through sheer hard work, I am sure, I will get there one day.
When the first goal was met, I felt a sense of relief because it was a tough one with plenty of guts and courage. There were several obstacles and hurdles and it took me some time to overcome them. The second goal was not so tedious but still a hefty price to pay for it. My third, fourth and fifth goals were respectively accomplished within 2 years! There were pain, tears, sweat, frustrations, joy & sorrows in achieving just (5) goals. Sometimes, I just want to give up everything and go into a hiding place. I must say that I am grateful to those who have helped and encouraged me and also for those who gave me the opportunity to prove my work. I have a mentor, she was very tough with me, I cried and sometimes bombarded & by her. I know she meant good to me.
I am now left with (15) goals in my list. I am very focus on the next one, which means, working with my bare hands, resourcing new materials, brain storming of new designs and getting out there to complete it. Time & money are the key factors and I really need to utilize them very carefully. I know I can meet my 6th goal easily because it’s a repetition one (2nd phase) of the buying trip for my business. It’s very tough, tiring and time consuming one too. If I cannot accomplished my 6th goal, then I won’t be able to continue the 7th goal, which is also related in someway. Each and every single goal to me is a painful process. I can tell you here, I find happiness in completing every individual goal because I met new people, learn new things & pick up bits and pieces along the way in my life.
What about you?

@Minxt:
That’s a good question. I am re-program my brain and re-define my goals after attending the meeting.
You really know how to work hard and play hard. I should have something come up when I refine my goals.
Thanks!
