Work hard and play hard - A life long entrepreneur journey for two

In the past few weeks, I have been in and out between hospital, dental clinic, coffee shop and my parents’ house. First of all, I am OK. No big deal here. While I travel to Taiwan alone (Back to where I started), I have been working hard, checking up my health condition and having some fun. I visited many beautiful places in Taiwan. It was a great trip so far.
I realized that I need a healthy body to enjoy my hard working money. I recently changed my blog tagline to Work Like An Entrepreneur & Play Like A Billionaire to remind myself that I need to spend the money I earn. I have been working very hard in the past years and I will need to enjoy what I have achieved. Without the health body, I won’t be able to fulfill my dream to travel around the world with my wife.
Work hard and play hard!
I will become a luggage that worries my lovely wife, if I have health problem. My wife has been very supportive to my decision on becoming a true success Internet Entrepreneur. It will not make sense to travel around the world along by myself or by her.
Being a workaholic, I think we all deserve some break time. My journey is not my own journey. It involves with many other people. After reading the 4 hours workweek book I mentioned in the post “Do you work like an entrepreneur or a dreamer?” I have learned that there are ways to work less and make more by rearrange my schedule and out source my job to others. I don’t think I will be dramatically cut down my working hours. So I plan to work only 4 hours a day and 20 hours a week in five years.
To be able to work harder and play harder, I need to do more exercise. There are few things that I will have to do everyday from now on, in order to work 4 hours a day, I need to change the way I live. I set my goals to cut two working hours a day in one year. Cut another two working hours a day next year. In five years, I will cut down 10 working hours a day. That means I will only work 4 hours a day. Hopefully, I will only work less than 4 hours a day.
Here is my plan since we all have 24 hours a day with no exception. I will spend …
- 12 hours working
- 6 hours sleep
- 2 hours exercise
- 4 hours eating, watching TV and doing useless stuff
I will adjust my schedule accordingly.
The most important thing is to keep a health life. I don’t smoke, don’t drink alcohol and don’t do things danger such as sky diving, surfing etc. I shall be able to keep my pace on track and be able to work hard and play hard.
Life is so short, achievement and enjoyment is equally important.
What’s your plan to work hard and play hard? How many hours do you work? What do you do to get your life better?

That’s great. And even if you don’t go exactly by the rigid schedule you put up there, at least it seems like you’re finding a balanced way to live.
Me… it will take me a while. A lot of changes in my life recently (all good, but all very confusing).
Good luck (and I like the picture, too).

@People In the Sun:
I think my top priority is keep in healthy life. Money can’t buy everything. Without the healthy body, money will be used to pay for your medical bill. That’s no fun at all.

Hi Terence - this is a great post. I definitely agree with your point about actively choosing to work hard but to also play hard.
My wife also has a lot of work, but we try to make it a point at least every day to have dinner at the same time together. We don’t have any kids yet, but we’re trying to make dinner a habit (no TV, no phone calls, nothing) to make sure that we have family time together daily.
The quote that I will always try to live up to is, “Don’t get so caught up making a living that you forget to make a life.”

@Al at 7P:
Thank you! I realize that your spouse is the most important person, who will live with your dream and reality for the rest of your life. Not your parents, brothers, sisters and not your kids. Without taking care of yourself and your other half, money does not mean anything.
The richest person in Taiwan lost his wife years ago. He regrets how much time he missed to have fun with his wife. He said that he rather live poor than live alone.
I dreamed to live in a better life with my wife. There is no better life, if there is no one share with you.

[…] So here you go! The post is about “The Number One Reason for My Internet Success” To give everyone a little taste about the post. I have the same answer that John Chow has. I have list that reason in my previous post “Work hard and play hard - A life long entrepreneur journey for two” […]

I’m glad that you do medical check-up to keep your health in check so that you can achieve your plans in life. It’s neat that you are cutting your working hours over a medium to long term goal. It’s a great idea.
I’m also a health freak. I go for my blood test once every 3 months. Everything is OK except some cholesterol fluctuation. I have a glucose test kit and high blood pressure kit in the house which my husband and I conduct the tests on our own too.

@Jesie:
Happy Chinese New Year! We all have some health issues here or there, when we are getting older. I have been working about 8 hours a day on my business and spent more time enjoying family time.
I wish you a great new year and looking forward seeing your new travel photos.

You need to read “the Power of Full engagement.” The book tells you how to have more Energy. Our productivity problems are not from lack of time but lack of energy. What if you could do more in 8 hours than most do in 12 hours because of maximum energy and mental focus? It’s not about working harder but working smarter to achieve your goals. All I can say is read the book and let me know how much more money and time you have. Then you can look me up and take me to dinner (since you will have too much time and money).

@TIM:
It sounds like an interesting book to read. I will check it out. You are right. If I WANT to work 8 hours a day, I will have to work very smart and efficiently.
Since you post the question to me. I bet you already read the book. Can you tell me how much more money and time you have? How about taking me and my readers to dinner?
Cheers!

Do you really think 6 hours is enough? Myself i cant work if i get less than 8 hours. Not sure what is optimal but i guess its from person to person.

@Sleepless:
It depends. If you can have deep sleep, 4 hours is very much enough. If you don’t sleep well, 12 hours is not good at all.

The secret to hapiness is through hard work . Through hard work you will sleep deeply and deep sleep is the a key to happiness.

@Pasty Muncher:
Thank you for stopping by. A good night sleep does help people getting their happiness. However, hard working often cause people sleepless. Many people can feel relax after hard working all day. They need to learn how to get off their word and enjoy their before going to bed.
