Few days ago, I posted that my Google Page Rank dropped from PR4 to PR0 on “TNX.NET – Text link ads may kill your Google Page Rank“. I believed it was caused by the advertisement I put on my blog. It includes the affiliate links from TNX.NET and ReviewMe. I decided to claim my PR back.
Now I can see that my PR is back to PR4. That’s good!
One of the reasons that kill my page ranking is the advertisement links. As many of us know already, Google doesn’t really like web site owner to put up paid-link advertisement. If you really want to make money off your web site, you need to make sure the following things are done right. Otherwise, you will end up getting the same penalty I have.
- Use nofollow in all your advertisement links
- Make you post easy to identify as a paid review post.
So I decided to write a Request reconsideration email to Google. In the email, I claim that I have added the nofollow to all advertisement links. I also claim that I have no intention to do paid review posts without making readers aware of that they are reading a paid review.
Less than 48 hours, I got my page rank back. It’s showing PR4 on my Google tool bar.
Now it’s time to get back in the page ranking game. I will ensure to provide more high quality content and get more readers. I want to move my blog page rank to the next level.

Terence – it’s weird you should mention that. Your post prompted me to check my rank. It had gone down to a 3 and now it has gone down to a 2.
It did this shortly after me posting an article with 107 links in it, so I’m wondering if that made a difference, as I use the do follow tag?
Also, it’s looking more and more like Google have set something up which changes PR on sites automatically, rather than waiting for an update.
Personally, I’m sick and tired of their ranking system. It gives no incentive to link out to great articles and posts and the only winners seem to be those who know how to beat the system.
Terence, congratulations! I’m going to be very careful about this because I’ve realised how valuable the Google search traffic is. I used to think I could do without it, but it’s growing slowly all the time and Adsense is starting to work better as well (I only show it to search visitors).
My PR got taken away because of the PPP post I wrote. I was waiting to see if I would get it back at the next update but this was not the case. I guess such is life. I wonder if I would get it back if I removed the post?

I don’t think it will drop your page rank in just few day. I realize that Google only index few pages every few days based on the frequency of your post. It has to be something you’ve done in the past few months that make Google aware of your changes. In most of case, you have links that is linking to known paid advertisement without using the nofollow attribute in your anchor tag.
Personally, I don’t like the way Page Ranking used in the advertisement system. However, it does affect your SERP indirectly. If you have a very famous blog, you don’t even need a PR. People will find you from Yahoo, MSN, AOL, ASK.com and many other search engines and forums.
@Stephen:
I have more search traffic from MSN and Yahoo these days. Google is still the number one traffic source. Especially for those old post.
@Gerri:
I believe that you have to make your reader aware of that the post is a paid advertisement review. You also need to make sure that the link in the post is using nofollow attributes. I would correct every mistake before email Google for reconsideration. Since you are making money off you blog, you should consider using your own domain on your own hosting with wordpress. It makes your blog more creditable. Good luck!
Sorry this is completely off the topic, but the picture put this question in my mind: do you play baseball in Chine?

I don’t play, but I was a big fan of baseball when I was kid in Taiwan. We used to get up in very early in the morning to watch the World-Cup game. The team from Taiwan was very good.
Now I watch more auto racing than any ball game.
Terence – glad you got your page rank back!

Thanks! It was interesting to see my PR drop so quickly. Now I am back in business ..
Well done for getting your rank reinstated.
One of my blogs was Google-slapped recently also. It went from PR 3 to 0. I’m pretty sure it was for the same reason that they hit you. I haven’t asked them to reverse it though.
Can’t complain, however, because two of my other blogs went up in rank.

My philosophy is to win not matter what. If there is something that I can control or improve, I will go for it. Without asking, facing and dealing with the issues I am running into, I will never know how easy to get that turn over.
I just write a simple email explain that I am not going to make the same mistakes. They flip over to favor me and get my PR4 back.
You don’t need PR if you can’t sell links )))
Your PR4 means absolutely nothing. Your site doesn’t even rank high for any of the competitive keywords.
I have been using TNX to sell links from my website since January 2008 and already earned more than I would earn in 5 months by selling links through any other networks.
TNX is definitely the best link network out there!
Will be also buying links later this month. Pretty sure TNX will do great.
I have already told all my friends about this great system.
Bravo, TNX!
