Recently, one of the blog that I read everyday generated some buzz and caught the attention from Darren Rose, the super problogger. The author at BloggingMix post “Why It Is Better To Network With Non Probloggers“, which got me thinking about who reads my blog.

Why you need to care?

Knowing who reads my blog is very important. I want to know who reads and why they read my blog. In many case, I successfully made connections to my readers from the search engine. They are no bloggers. They were looking for some answers on the Internet and found my blog.

Knowing your readers is like finding your niche. If you blog about “Make Money Online“, you may not care about those reader who are looking for Chinese Food photos. However, you will care about those who really want to make money online like you do. In many cases, those readers are not a professional blogger.

BloggingMix has listed few reasons that you should network with Non Probloggers.

  1. Non Probloggers are still building their networks. This means you’ve got better chances of establishing relationships with them.
  2. Non Probloggers are usually new to blogging so they need all the support they can get. Building a relationship with them can start by simply helping them fix a problem in their blog or by giving them useful links and tips.
  3. Non Problogger are more generous. They link generously.
  4. Compared to Problogger, Non Probloggers are larger in number. This makes networking with them easier as you’ve got more bloggers to network with.
  5. Non Probloggers are not too picky with whom they network with.

Personally, my blog is all about my journey to a true professional Internet Entrepreneur. There is no surprise to me that most of my readers are NOT even a blogger. My blog covers many topics, including my travel experience, amateur photography, my business ideas and my long journey from nothing to something. My blog doesn’t really have a unique niche.

How do I know who reads my blog?

  • Web Log - Web log shows that most of my traffic is from Search Engine. People are looking for tips for Entrepreneur, GPS in China, products made in China, travel like a millionaire and few are looking for Alexa Traffic Ranking and StumbleUpOn related topics.
  • Contact Form - My contact form has brought me some great readers. Many asked me how I made my money on the Internet and few of them are asking me to invest their web 2.0 startup companies.
  • Live Chat - Ever since I installed the Live Chat widget on my blogs, I have lost count how many live chat sessions I have done. I answered a lot of questions to my readers. I helped a professional photographer getting his own web hosting account at ANHosting.com. I constantly chat with the author of my favorite blog at slyvisions.com. I help few people who were having troubles installing Pluggo and AIM WIMZI. I met a professional photographer named King Wu, who has been to #1 yellow mountain in China more than 9 times. I also got some inspirational inside tips and tricks from real fortune 500 entrepreneur.
  • Widgets - Many blogger installed blog community widgets on their blog. MyBlogLog, BlogCatalog, Bumpzee and more are now used by a lot of blogs. With such widgets, I am able to know who was visiting my blog and left comments. I also compare that with my web log to find out where they came from.

Most of them are not probloggers or has blogs.

A reader is the most valuable asset of your blog. Without a reader, your blog means nothing.

Do you know who reads your blog? What do you do to get to know your readers?
