Does your online business cost you fortune - Skype
e-commerce, Opportunity, Business, Technology October 31st, 2007
I have been asked so many times about how I started my own online business. I have also been asked how much I spent on my online business. To be honest, I have spent a lot of time, but not much money. I think it is equally important to make money online and save money online.
So how do you save money with skype?
We all know that the first step to start your own business is the most difficult step. Saving cost is one of the most important things besides making money. If you are running an online business like I do, you should consider save more money with service like Skype. Online retail business! You need to find ways to lower your cost. If you can spend zero dollars while operating your company like corporation, you will make even more money off your online business.
I am not a big fan of Skype. I use Yahoo messenger, AIM, MSN Live messenger, Meebo, Plugoo for my online text messaging, offline messaging and free incoming calls or cheap international calls. I was looking for new suppliers in China, who can provide me higher quality fashion jewelry for my newly opened fashion jewelry online store. I pick my phone and dial the number to the CEO of the supplier / manufacture in China. For me, the call made to China costs me $0.015 per minutes through Yahoo Messenger phone out service. It’s cheap. Well. I guess it’s not so cheap any more. The first question the CEO asked me was this. “Do you do Skype Video Call?”
Well. Forget about how bad my experience with Skype a while ago. I have a post about “AIMPhoneline vs. Yahoo Voice vs. Skype.” I give the CEO my Skype name, he ring the bell to me. I hung up the landline and pick up the Skype call. It has a little delay, but it’s crystal clear. I can even see his face through the web cam.
The funny think is that I am dealing with a new vendor online face to face. It works great! The only thing that bothers me is that he has to talk to his clients on the cell phone while I am watching him. That’s not a pretty picture. I can hear what his said on the other side of the earth.
After all, this CEO told me that “Doing business in China is harder and harder.” “We have to count all the pennies.” Although the calls to China with $0.015 per minutes are cheap to me, it’s not cheap enough to him in China. I have to help my partners to save their cost too. By using Skype online with vendors or suppliers in China, it save their money and make them happier. At the end, I give them a good impression and I got a good deal in return.
How much do you spend on your online business? How much does your business spend on their business? Think about it.
Skype does help!

Very informative post. Have you taken a look at and tried Jajah for making calls?

@Gerri:
That is something I have never heard of. It cost 3.1 cents from US to China. It’s double the price of Yahoo Messenger and 10 cents more than PinCity.com.
You can try PinCity, it’s cheaper and you can use any phone to dial.
Thank you for sharing. I will give it a try sometimes.

I actually do not use Skype for business, but it’s still my favorite instant messaging software. The voice when talking is truely very clear (I have never tryed video talk though). I highy recommend it to any businessman or just a person who just wants to chat with friends.

@Hidden Skype Icons:
I think the quality of Skype calls depends on where you are calling to and calling from. I have tried the calls between USA and Asia without much luck. However, the PC to PC video calls are not that bad.
Thank you for visiting.

agree with Hidden Skype Icons. I wouldn’t use Skype for business calls since it’s not that clear (and reliable). If you want your clients/customers to know you’re serious about your business, then get a proper phone line… just my 2cents
