Make money online with advertisement free blog

October 8, 2007 9:53 amTerence Chang

Few days ago, I left a comment on Dosh Dosh’s famous make money online blog. Now my comment is included as #10 ways on 63 Constructive Opinions on the Best Way to Make Money Online. I said that the best way to make money online for me is to sell “Made in China” products on the Internet, while many others are making good money on their blog or blogs. I just don’t seem to be able to make decent profit off my blog.

What did I do wrong with my blog? I have removed all advertisement off my blog with one referral link left.

Few days ago, I post Review my blog October 2007 – one step closer to be a billionaire. I realized that I could not keep up my posting schedule to keep my viewers coming back. While I was traveling in Hong Kong and China, I was unable to keep my posting schedule. So I lost many viewers. Consequently I lost some revenue of advertisement. I proved why make money online with blog is not right for me. I don’t think I did anything wrong with my blog. I just believe that I don’t have enough time to focus on making money off my blog. As I mentioned earlier, making money off blog requires a lot of time and energy to do many of the following things. I just can’t afford all my time to focus on those things.

  • Write quality content.
  • Make interesting topic to attract more viewers
  • Increase traffic through stumbleUpOn , Digg, and link exchange
  • Make comments on other blogs
  • Spend time on social networking
  • Keep post frequency.

For me, I have been making good profit off my e-commerce stores. I have spent many my valuable hours on making those sites profitable. As I mentioned in the previous posts, many blogger who makes good money are also making good money off other things. Blogging for money are just their side job to make some extra money. This side job is just not working for me.

I often asked myself few questions.

  • Are there any billionaires making money off their blog?
  • Do they care about making few bulks per click on their personal blog?
  • Do they even have personal blog?
  • Do they really have time make such a small amount of money?
  • Does Oprah Winfrey care about making money off her stumbleUpOn and myspace profile (Billionaire – Oprah Gail Winfrey is now a stumbler)?

Rich people all got something more important to pay attention to and more profitable works to do. So do I.

So what can I do to make money off my blog without advertisement?

First of all, I removed most of the advertisement. It’s not worth to pay too much attention on it and check the revenue status. Second, I have received some feedback about the annoyance of advertisement on my blog. Personally, I really hate the pop-up ads over the links. I don’t even look at it on other bloggers. It’s the same way my viewers will feel like.

How to make money without the ad? Build up your reputation on something you really know about. You simply share your experience with your viewers. Some of them will come back and ask for help. You provide the solutions to your viewers. So they spread the words to the world. People come to you for more help. At the end, you are paid to provide your consultant service. I have done this in the past. It really worked well.

  1. I agree with your final statement:

“Build up your reputation on something you really know about.”

I think generating an income from advertising revenue on a blog is difficult, and hard work. Most the top bloggers are passing off their experience in their blogs – it isn’t their primary source of income. They usually all run quite successful e-businesses, and that’s what makes them top bloggers – because they are experts in their field that people want to listen to.

They blog to continue their branding.

You’ve made a great point. “They blog to continue their branding.”

That is how those top blogger do to keep their revenue. We all learned from them. Making money online with blog is all about making the good image about themselves. It also give their viewers encouragement.

    Thank you for stopping by!

  3. I think the best way to make money blogging without direct advertising is to blog about specific products and in the posts include affiliate links and such. Might not make you a ton of money, but would pull in a little bit at least.

    Hi, I couldnt help but comment as I believe if you are crude and sly like Jenny How (www.jennyhow.com), you can make money like her. If you check her eBay User IDS, she operates 3 different eBay IDs which IS against the ToC of eBay. An eBay watchdog site (for south east asians) had her user ids all linked up which are;

    beautyXXXXXX

    craftyXXXXXX

    didXXXXXX

Using different names to register and operate from her home under the same IP is against the ToC.

So, does this qualify for reaching your billions?

First of all, you are taking on the wrong person. I don’t sell stuff on eBay and I am not crude and sly. Second of all, Jenny How’s business is not my business. She has the rights to do whatever she wants to. I don’t have to sell on eBay to make good profit. If she can make good money without getting caught, it’s good for her! I don’t have problem with it.

There are many ways to reach your personal billion dollars. If you have to pay attention on how much others are making, you are wasting your time.

Do you have better way to make your billion dollar? I would love to hear about your experience. Thank you for stopping by!

Is that your new tips and tricks of promoting your own blog? I was wondering if you just got a new LemonsAllDay nickname. ;-)

That’s right. You will be more famous now!

BTW, He/She is from your city as well.

  9. Steve says:

@ LemonsAllDay – would you care to quote your sources on where the eBay TOC state that it is forbidden to have multiple ID’s?

If you researched properly, you may find that they state that each ID must have a separate email address, and each SELLING account must be linked to a unique credit or debit card number. Likewise, each paypal account must be registered to a separate bank account (in the UK & USA at least).

Has it not occured to you that if Jenny really wanted to capitalise on the popularity of her (excellent) Blog, she would have it full of affiliate text links, spyware and blatant plugs for her own listings? Except for a few adsense and small banners, I don’t see this, does anyone else?

    @Steve:

I don’t think LemonsAllDay fully understand eBay’s TOC. I could not even find the section about multiple user IDs. I have chat with eBay support. They clearly state that I can have as many eBay seller ID as I wish. As long as they are separate identity. It means that you will need to have different email addresses, bank accounts, credit cards for each identities. You can operate all accounts from the same IP and same physical address or even same company.

Just be very careful not to get banned on any one of these accounts. It will also banned all of them based on the same IP.

Jenny has a great blog that I have learned so much from her.

    Thank you for stopping by!

  15. Before getting into blogging, you must be clear on your missions and strategy. Now if you are an expert definitely people would visit your blog for they want to listen to your experiences but for a beginner in his field a very tricky thing that can be done to the blogs is enhancing your blog posts using images or cartoon drawings. This would just help your blog grab the required attention. It can add the witty zing to your message, and people would be interested to read it.

  16. I’m new to the blogging business so I just wanted to thank you for your tips and advice. I think finding something you’re really interested in and then making money while doing it is the best way to go. Then it’s not work anymore- you’re getting paid to do what you love! :)
