Thought of living in the hell? Try eat trash!
Blah Blah Blah September 18th, 2007While traveling in China and wanting to be the next billionaire, I really enjoy what I have so far. I am neither the richest person nor the poorest person in the world. I am just a normal person that seems to be luckier than the rest of people.
If you think your life sucks and you are living in the hell. Or you have too many complaints about your life. Think about it again after reading the following.
Would like to eat garbage?
I was on the way back to Hong Kong from Shenzhen, China. I saw a scene that I will never forget and will appreciate what I have so far. An old lady carried a 3 years old boy with her. She put him on her knee and feed herself and the kids in front of the trash can. She searched the trash can and found some trashed leftover to eat. I thought about giving her some money to buy real foods, but I was told not to do so. Why? There is a chance that some gang member forces them to do so. If you give them money, someone may be going after you.
I don’t know about their story. I just could not stand that no one is helping them. There is no sympathy. I don’t know how many poor family lives like that.
I am not saying that China is a poor place to live. There are many really poor people without a good meal and a warm bad to sleep. You can’t even help them. I should say that they could not get any help. Not even from the government or police officers. People just walk by and look down on them. It’s so brutal cold blood.
I am so glad that I was not raised in front of garbage. I am really curious about what the kid is thinking.
Eating garbage! What would I think? What would you think?

during my trip to Shenzen few years back, i was told those eating garbage are lies. they are just acting about it and hopefully you will give them money if you pitied them.
Not sure how true is that? There are also other kind of ‘actings’ usually will involve babies or kids to get more sympathy….

My wife and I have never traveled anywhere besides the US, Canada and Mexico, but I remember on a cruise to Mexico that we faced a lot of begging in Ensinada. We were basically told to be careful. You never really know in a foreign country what’s going on, but the garbage story you cited is sad, even if it’s phony.

@JennyHow:
I think you are totally right on this one. I saw the same lady with different dress again. She is eating the same things at different location. I am glad that I did not abuse and waste my sympathy.

@TDavid:
I know exactly what you meant. I have been there before. Once you give one, hundred come after one.

I think we should thank god for everything which we’ve got. I see lots of beggars across the cities and I do feel that how do they manage to live. In any sense, we are much better than them…so what are you waiting for…lets thank everyone around us and god too.

You are right. We should appreciate what we have. We are living in a much better situation than many others.
