It’s not hard to find hotel (hostel) at all. You don’t have to book in advance. You can simply visit the hostel and look at the room first. If you like it, you can negotiate the price. Otherwise, you can go to next one. Try to stay at the hostel on the West Street (the most busy street), so you can easily get foods and shops.

Things changed a lot since my last trip there in 2007. Some of the rivers are closed. One of the best local food is the beer fish. I think you will like it.

Hello there..nice blog u got here. I’m planning to go to guilin in early january. Yet, I still haven’t book any hotel. Is it ok for me to there and choose the hotel or do i need to book here earlier. i’m planning to stay for a week and my target places to go are yang shuo, and longji terrace field. do u have any more suggestion for me? by the way, i’m a muslim. is it hard to find food suitable to us there? thanks!

At place like YangShuo, you can eat very cheap. However, it’s not always as clean as your home-made meal. I got sick the first time I visit China. You just need to be careful about what you eat.

China is huge, you will have a lot of to see.

WOW! You must have had great time to travel for a year. Not many people have the guts to leave everything behind. It is great experience to see different world and eat different foods. Not many people stay in China as long as you did. It’s not as luxury as in US, but it’s cheap in many ways. I have also learned a lot about how to deal with Chinese.

Even though I am a Chinese, it’s not easy for Chinese to deal with other Chinese sometimes.

Hi,
I love your blog, can identify with the backpack park.
17 years ago, I backpacked (From Australia, New Zealand, America, England, Ireland Scotland, Europe, Russia, Egypt, Jordan, Hong Kong and China).
It was a year journey but I love it.
I always have a dream of travel round the world before I turned 30 and I did it when I was 29 years old. So now you know how old I am :).
It was great !
Travel made a person look at life outside of his / her box, a different perspective.
I love your blog.
