I was there for only 1 week. My brother worked in Taiwan for serveral years maintaining the airplanes for EVA. He was not interested in any promotion. Anyway, he passed his exams and was promoted. In a junior position, if anyone in the department was discovered to have make a mistake, the whole team would have to pay to the Company. The more senior you are, the more you will have to pay. If the engineering/maintenance team have to pay for their mistakes, I believe all will have to work hard to the best of their knowledge and ability to make sure that the planes are in super condition.
