Review my blog August 2007 - What have I learned?
Motivation, Business, Blah Blah Blah August 1st, 2007I just thought about writing a review about my own blog. What in the world people write a review about their own blog? Many bloggers put together a weekly or monthly summary about their most popular posts and achievement. Some bloggers, who is primary making money online, are posting their earning for the previous month. Since I am no where near making money online, I thought it will be nice to review my own progress for the past two months. I think I will do this type of review every three months.
So how was I doing with my blog?
Since June 1st, 2007, I decided to re-start my personal blog. I stopped doing this since 2003. I was so busy working as chief architect for an International firm in the legal industry. So I basically start from scratch.
What have I learned in the past two months?
- Successfully manipulate the web site traffic with Alexa Traffic Ranking and StumbleUpOn - I have been learning how to drive short term traffic to the web site with less effort. It does put me on top of search engine in some keywords. I have also learned that StumbleUpOn is a great community that can drive you unbelievable traffic. A huge amount of sudden traffic may also kill your web site.

- Learned how to be a good stumbler to drive traffic to other bloggers’ web sites - The more I play with Alexa Traffic Ranking and StumbleUpOn, the more I realize that how important a good content will be. StumbleUpOn can only bring you short term traffic. Quality content is the key to bring you more long term traffic.

- Learned how to re-build my social network skills - I have been away from the online social network for years. Now I am back to the social network business. There are many helpful tools and communities that helped me communicate with others. I have since met many friends.

- Make money online is the way to be rich - I have been doing Internet web based web development for years. I know so much about the programming. I also have my own online business to operate, which is making good profit. However, the new trend of “many money online” is to blog for money. Many bloggers are following the train and working really hard on their journey. Well. I realize that I won’t be on the same train. I think I have better chance to make money online with other stuff. Blogging for me is just a fun thing to do

- I want to be a billionaire - I have recently changed my blog title from “Blah Blah Blog” to “Almost a Billionaire.” I believe that a man can be success only if they believe they will be. Without the correct mind set, nothing will work. It’s my personal blog anyway. I can do whatever I want to reach my goal.

Thats interesting. I have been learning a lot from you lately. Thanks to your blog I have also increased traffic.
I never thought of writing a review of my own blog. Because its being written like a book, I feel funny just breaking in and addressing my audience directly now and then, and when I do, I usually end up deleting those posts.
I think I shall like to read up on the knowing your viewer with the widgets thing because I have been weighing the benefits of using them, and I wondered how other people felt about it too.
See ya round the web.

Terence, I have no doubts that you’ll be a billionaire. It’s all about the Law of Attraction. Visualize it and the goals are attracted to you instead of the other way around.
Keep going!

Thank you! I have learned a lot from all the blogs I visited in the past months. I think the purpose of review your own blog is to remind yourself how much progress you have made.
@Bryan:
Thanks! You said it right. You keep up the good work too.

Good summary.
I’ve only been running my current blog crop for about five weeks. But, I have learned a few things…
You are right that StumbleUpon is good for short-term traffic. My Google post that you and another reader stumbled brought me twice my normal traffic. But, my Proofreading Your Comments post that you stumbled brought me five times my normal traffic!
I would never have expected such a short and simple post on proofreading would have attracted so many readers!
But, afterwards, the traffic drops down to normal levels.
I agree that quality content will bring in sustained, long-term traffic. I think my latest post was a little off. I edited it a few times before posting it, but I didn’t get it to come across the way I saw it forming in my head. So, it’s about constant improvement too.
Best wishes for continued success with your blog. I keep checking in about every day, even if I don’t always leave a comment.

I like your idea of reviewing what you have learned over the month, it helps you to remember what is important, and it helps your readers learn as you do. I noticed the same thing this month about quality content and StumbleUpon.

@Danelle:
I got some ideas from your and other’s blog. To be a better blogger, I will try to digest what I have learned in the past. I have not asking for stumble from anyone for weeks now. I am getting pretty good static traffic everyday. It’s not as good as weeks ago, but it’s slowly increase.
Thanks you for stopping by!

I think you can dig and stumble your own post, only if you have enough power to do so. I realize that there are gray area for that.
I am wondering what you mean post articles for search engine? Do you mean two version of content like you mentioned earlier? Or just optimized for search engine?
That’s right! You need to come back more often to leave your foot print.

With articles for search engine I meant , there are certain articles which can bring you people from search engine. for ex - my article on unblocking orkut when got cached at google, sent me nearly 500 visitors the first day i.e begining of july and till now it sends around 50 -100 visitors coz my blog get listed on the first page for that. Moreover similar is your case on increase alexa rank . Since you rank at the top , atleast many bloggers who search regarding increasin alexa rank will land up on your blog.

This is what i meant with posting articles for search engine. I havnt implemented that two blogs version . But seems one wordpress plugin who sees ads will be the easiest way to do that
August 4th, 2007 at 10:30 am
@kanak:
That explain very well. I think the traffic depends on what keywords you have. I have few other page on top of Google #1 position, but I got no traffic. Those keywords used are odd.
I am very interested in that two version blog. Do you have the plugin name?
Thanks!
