Are you a desperate blogger? What’s wrong with you?
Blog, Blah Blah Blah July 29th, 2007Just saw this fresh new post about the 9 signs of “Desperate blogger.” I am glad that I am not so desperate to rescue my blog. I have been evaluating my own online business needs and strategies. I realize that “Why make money online with blog is not right for me?”
So what are those 9 signs of desperate blogger? Did you do any one of the following things that make you a desperate blogger? Are desperate?
- Create lots of free blogs and link to your official blog.
- Fake your own comment and use positive feedback.
- Create numerous accounts with digg, reddit and delicious then submit and vote your own post.
- Create lots of email accounts and subscribe to your own post.
- Nominate and vote for your own blog.
- Fake your traffic.
- Pick a fight with other bloggers to become controversial.
- Steal concepts and ideas from other bloggers.
- Lie on your title, site description etc.
For more detail explanation, please read the original post Guilty or Not? Are You a Desperate Blogger? at BloggingMix. You can find more useful tips and tricks about how to be a good blogger.
Personally, I would add few more points about desperate blogger.
- Asking for stumble, link exchange and traffic building. I admit that I was once a desperate blogger who wants to see how easy Alexa traffic can be increased in very short period time. Well. I did what I expect. Now it’s time to get out of desperation.
- Asking for reviews. I am totally confidence that my content is good to my viewer. It may not be suitable to everyone, but I wrote every word from my heart. I love to be reviewed. Good or bad! I just don’t need to ask for review that I already knew.
- Put up so much advertisement and trying to make a few. For me, the first sign of been a desperate blogger is trying to make money without a good foundation. Most of them will fail because they don’t know how to make money online with blog. They just learned that someone did it and believe they can duplicate it too.
Are you desperate blogger? Do you want me to review your blog to make you not so desperate?

I could I missed those. I guess, I’m partially guilty. I even put up a thread at Blogcatalog asking members to review my blog. But begging for a stumble and link exchange, I’m definitely not guilty.
Wonderful addition Terence. Thanks for dropping by. Cheers!

I don’t know about this one. I had advertisements up from day one and I’m doing alright!
July 29th, 2007 at 6:37 am
And you’ve succeeded. I’ve seen your blog featured in StumbleUpon for several times. And your Alexa ranking noticeably improved. You’re doing well mate.
Cheers!

@Bryan:
You are doing ok. Your blog is not close to the point that annoy your viewer. You set the goal to make living with advertisement. You let your viewer aware of that. Not like other sites full of crap content and lots lots of Ad without being honest
That is what I am talking about foundation. Honest! I am your supporter, because you are honest!
Just keep that way!

aaaaaaahhhh !! dragged me out of my comfort feed-zone with this post !! guess what !! i feel partially guilty now after reading this post (you pointed what i tried doing during first 15 days of my blogging ;)) but am glad that I left all those tactics 2 months back
.. Thank god !! i am not a desperate blogger any more
… lolzzz on the last line “Do you want me to review your blog to make you not so desperate??”

@BloggingMix:
Thanks! I was all over building traffic to my site. Now I am more calm and trying to figure out what is the best to my blog and my viewer. Since making money online with blog won’t work for me, I would try to help others who can’t really make money with blog to make their life better with other things.

@kanak:
you are funny! I think you will be doing very well, if you have some ad now. I like your blog a lot. Very informative! I guess that I should write a review about your blog, so I don’t feel too guilty.
July 29th, 2007 at 6:56 am
The only thing that I am hmmm…guilty over is the controversial topics on my blog.
“…Pick a fight with other bloggers to become controversial.”
I haven’t “picked” a fight, however, I provoked conversations that may have produced a controversial debate. I’m a Christian lesbian–to most Christians, seems to be a contradiction. My interpretations of biblical scriptures and the way I perceive Christianity may stump a few people.
I have had fundamentalists, radical Christians as well as the KKK come onto my site to tell me I’m going to hell for my sinful behavior.
I believe that if you have quality content and you draw readers who are interested in your general topics, you’ll draw more readers. It depends on who you draw, which makes for better traffic.
Desperate? Hmm. Just excited about writing and hearing other people’s point of views. I first started blogging to get some advice and to see how other people viewed certain issues. I’ve gained a lot of knowledge from many readers, writers and people who just passed by to put in their two cents. But, if your blog becomes a “job” that’s painfully exhausting, then it’s time to evaluate why you blog.
Enjoy your Sunday!

@Deb:
Thank you for stopping by. I have never felt guilt by bringing up controversial topic. You have the right to express your opinions. My bottom line is this. As long as you don’t swear their families, I will be fine! If I don’t like what I hear, I will just let it go! Are you black? What in the heck KKK has anything to to with lesbian? I thought they are racist! Have KKK change their business plan?
To be honest, I have many good friends they are gay. I find gay people are nicer and more friendly in general.
I like to hear different voice as well, which made me grow and understand people better.
Great thanks! Will check out your blog.

Ouch. I’m not a desperate blogger but those all seem like useful ways to build traffic. Except for the free blogs. That’s just lame.

That’s some funny stuff, Terrence. I have too much pride for that kind of thing. Heh…
July 29th, 2007 at 4:22 pm
Well, I hope I’m not a desperate blogger! I’m not using most of those from the list. And, although I am slowly adding more ads, I hope that I am not doing too much.
As for #7, I don’t see a problem with that if (1) that’s the route you want to take or (2) you have a legitimate reason to disagree with another blogger. It just depends on the extent to which you take it. If you disagree and post a contrary post, I don’t see a problem with that. But, if you take it to the level of name-calling and stuff like that, then you’re definitely a desperate blogger!
As for #8, that too sort of depends. There’s nothing new under the sun. It’s one thing to borrow ideas, maybe even link to the same articles or videos, but just add your own input to it, if required. Now, if you’re talking about literally stealing content, such as reposting another blogger’s post without their permission or even claiming it as your own, then that’s just wrong.

@Jason:
Thank you for stopping by.
@dcr:
I have to agree on the #8.
July 29th, 2007 at 11:32 pm
100% agree with DCR that reposting other bloggers post claiming it as their own, is the biggest desperation a blogger can show. Well !! today only i realized I have been a victim of this kind of desperation
.
( just kidding , thanks a ton for your comment and appreciation on my blog and would love your support in form of a review
)
@terence , i will really happy to take you out of little guilty feeling
July 29th, 2007 at 11:36 pm
ooops !! did i just proved myself a desperate blogger as per point No. 2 in your list.

@Kanak:
I have trapped you, haven’t I?
If you can do me a favor, I definitely will give you a thumb up and review. I really like your blog, which looks very clean to me. I would love to know what plug-in you use for those nice tag cloud, last month top 10 post, etc. I believe many of my viewers who will be benefited by your post.
All you have to do is to post what plug-ins you would recommends as informative as possible on you blog and let me know.
How does that sounds? You don’t need to feel guilty at all.
You are help others.

Wow! You’ve had a good number of comments on your last few posts. Looks like you’ve really hit a chord with your latest postings over the past several days.

@dcr:
I was not doing as good as few weeks ago, since I stop manipulating Alexa traffic ranking and asking for stumble.
I was desperate to see how I can get traffic. I did not really felt guilty though. Now. My traffic drop dramatically.
I am thinking to manipulate my ranking one more time to boost my blog into 100K margin, while I am at 152,282 now. I don’t really care my traffic raking. I am just curious how far I can go with it and prove it to many other bloggers that Alexa traffic ranking is garbage. Only good content can bring your long term traffic.
It doesn’t sound very logical though with what I do. Isn’t it?.
Thank you for stopping by!
July 30th, 2007 at 12:40 am
Alexa isn’t really accurate until you’re in the top 1% or thereabouts, if I remember right. At the lower levels, it’s easy to manipulate without even trying. I used to have the Alexa toolbar in my browser. I didn’t use any tricks or gaming or anything to manipulate my Alexa rank. But, just by surfing the web, and reviewing my own sites, I got pretty good increases in my Alexa rank. All I did was have the Alexa toolbar installed.

@dcr I agree with you …alexa is highly inaccurate. Thats why i wrote the article
