Entrepreneur, Success story, Marketing, Business July 15th, 2007
Who doesn’t want to be rich? Who doesn’t want to be success in their life? Why we are not the one making a small ugly idea very success business? What in the world make this idea so powerful and so dramatically changing the business world and our life? If you have not seen these ugly shoes, you are missing a lot of great business ideas.
Who is Crocs.com? What do they do?
Just read the article on MSN Money about “How Crocs is outpacing the pack“. The company Crocs.com is the hot company, which producing some ugly shoes that made over 200 millions sales in 2006. Yes. You heard right. This is what their magic growth number. According to the report list above, Corcs is making huge profit by selling those unique, ugly, but very interesting plastic shoes.
Then a funny thing happened. The ta-da moment, if you will. By the fall of 2006, Crocs’ first full year of earnings reports as a public company showed that it was a phenomenal grower, and that it wasn’t just generating profit-less revenue like an empty-headed dot-com. It was making massive fistfuls of money with its wacky little shoes. Check this out: In 2002, records show the company earned a gross profit of $1,000. In 2003, $27,000. In 2004, $6.3 million. In 2005, $60.8 million. In 2006, $200.6 million.
Can you believe that? I still remembered when I first saw these ugly shoes in the local store. I was shocked by the color and the looking of the shoes. I was wondering what the ugly shoes it is and what people is still buying that for? Now many parents buy at least two pair of these shoes for each one of their kids and all families. Now, Crocs has over 5000 dealers all over the world selling their products. They keep creating new style, new color and new way to wear the shoes.
Who would think that ugly shoes are making this huge profit in just few years? Their stock is growing faster than the Stock King Google. So do we learn from this unique and ugly shoes maker?
Can we be the next one like that?
I believe we all have some unique ideas that we never thought it will make such dramatic impact on the market. Being a small business owner for a while now, I have to re-think my strategies of making buzz.
So here is what I learned from them.
- Make sure your product is unique and right on the targeted niche.
- Don’t be afraid of making negative impression of your products, which could make positive impact to the generic market
- Be creative on the things people use everyday.
- Move forward faster, so your competitor will never catch up.
- Protect yourself by making your product so unique that no one knows how to copy it.
- Your target could be different than your buyer. Pre-teen are the consumer force, while parents have the buying power. When it comes together, there is business.
What do you learn from this company? It’s now your turn to tell me what you have learned from Crocs.

They are ugly and can get smell too. I think a hospital banned them not to be worn by their workers because they cause static electricity too.

Really? I did not know that will have bad smell. I have not bought one yet. Thank you for sharing.

This just goes to show the importance of marketing and sales. Crocs has proven that there is a market for any product.

Bryan: Exactly! Not just ugly products. For my ugly blog, I should know better how to market my own blog and make $200M worth ..

I wouldn’t be caught dead in crocs myself (I’m more of a “strappy-high heels girl”, myself)…. but for kids, they are worth their weight in gold… indestructable, waterproof….

They definitely did some good marketing and I think they look funny too, but aren’t they supposed to be really comfortable?

I actually went to store and tried it out, I does feel soft and comfortable. However, I don’t really like it when I am not wearing socks. It’s getting sticky under the Sun in Arizona when you sweat a log. Like awannabe said. It smells weird.

What about combining crocs and uggs (another ugly shoe) to make “cruggs” the ugliest shoe ever!

Danielle:
I think the Uggs do not look that bad, but that is very innovative ideas. You are really good at marketing …

No actually there are some styles of Uggs that I like - but I think the two combined would likely be pretty funny, and pretty ugly! A girl I work with came up with the idea a few weeks ago and we joke about Cruggs a fair bit. I will let you know when I get started on production so I can send you a complimentary pair!

Oh - I moved hosts and the DNS has been updated but not here so I am waiting and then I can fix stuff. It will definitely be back!
So does that mean you want the pink model of Cruggs?
July 18th, 2007 at 3:39 pm
Oh ..yeah .. That will look nice on me.
Can’t wait to see it in production! Seriously!
