Just saw the news today on News.com. Software lets parents monitor kids’ calls.
… For example, during the first two days on the phone, Joshua got six calls from a stranger within a few hours–and the Brumfields got six text alerts. So they asked
Joshua about the calls, and he told them they were from a man looking for his ex-girlfriend who didn’t believe that her number had changed. …
I am not surprised by the topic. My first thought is why parents give their kid a cell phone at first place? And watch who their kid was talking to by receiving a text message?
Does our kids have privacy? Or do we protect our kids too much? I just think that we spoiled our kids too much!
Why give them a cell phone and watching them?
Now kids are spoiled by their parents. This is a global problem. Look at the kids in China. Some kids have more than one cell phone. When I was traveling in China in 2006, I saw many kids on the moving train. They don’t sleep much, because they keep talking on the phone or text messaging. For me, there is not much fun at all.
The kids just keep their eyes on those tiny screen on the bus, in the class and walking on the street. Do they learn something from using the cell phone? I believe that parents want to give their kids a cell phone for safety reasons. So they can call their kids and know where they are and what they are doing.
I just can’t believe that parents are now watching and monitoring their kids. Does kid has privacy? If the parents are so afraid about the safety, why not pay more attention on them. I have seen American parents text messaging to their kids at home? I mean “AT HOME.” They don’t talk to each other face to face. Something serious wrong with that picture.

Wow.
That’s creepy.

This is what I expected on the new iPhone. Since Apple is working so closely with Google, soon you will be able to track where you are and who you are talking to on Google Map. And you can find your social network friends on Google map.
That’s going to be fun!

You made the point. Thank you for stopping by! I like your blog with unique topic.
I agree. In fact it is rather dangerous for children to ignore the surroundings/streets etc while glueing their eyes on the little screens.
On the other side of the coin, don’t parents trust their kids anymore? It seems that everywhere you look, you hear only about ways of monitoring and tracking kids’ every movement.
Heck, I’d spend all night on the computer when I was in my teens; not so much with IMing and chat, but mostly just browsing the interwebs and playing games. I didn’t have any supervision with it. As far as a cellphone, I don’t get why teens need them; I didn’t have one until a couple of years ago, and even then I just got a basic phone; about the only “special” feature I have on it is a color screen

Thanks! I remember that I got my first cellphone after I got my first check from my first job. My parents never pay for the phone and will never monitor my conversation.
That’s proper parenting. Make kids earn for what they want.

I am glad that I don’t have kid. I guess they will be smarter than me. They might be just monitoring me instead.
