[Updated on 2007-06-11] Since I post this blog entry about my DIY marketing strategies on June 1st, 2007, I have received over 1000 unique visitors to the page. What a suprise! As the side effect, I believe that many of you (my visitors) have pushed my traffic ranking on Alexa much faster than I ever expect. My traffic ranking has been up 5 millions points in 10 days, while my other sites are still struggling. Yes. You read it right. 5 million points (See how?). Read more about my thoughts on “Alexa traffic ranking won’t do any good to my web site.“
There are many marketing strategies for improving your page ranking on Google search engines result pages and Alexa page ranking database. My blog was PR4 way back to 2004, but I have not update my blog for years. Now my page rank is down to the PR1. So here comes my strategies to get my page rank back as much as possible. I am really technical in web programming, but not really into the Internet marketing. I have done many research on the Internet and found good resources about increase your page ranking without spend a dollar. Here is my DIY marketing strategies list.
1. Increase Alexa page ranking with Alexa Redirect. For example, to redirect your web page to your own web site or blogs is to type your domain and replace terencechang.com in the following URL redirect link. http://redirect.alexa.com/redirect?http://www.terencechang.com
[Updated] I have recently post a new entry about “Alexa traffic ranking won’t do any good to my web site”
2. Join MyBlogLog.com and connect to my communities at TerenceChang and TerenceChang – Blog More. Just right after sign up the Free MyBlogLog.com services and made some friends and joint to some communities, I can see some traffic comes in to my blog. That is awesome.
3. Join StumbleUpon your web site and blog entries. Connect with your friends to build the your friends and network. This is another good community site that you can meet with many friends. I even found one of my buddy there and other friends I just met on MyBlogLog.com. How cool is that. Now we are all connected.
4. Join http://www.technorati.com/ and claim all your web sites and blogs.
5. Join FeedBurner and point all your feed to them. It will drive you traffic almost instantly. Here is the link to subscribe my feed as example.
Subscribe in a reader
6. Ask your friend to bookmark your web URL, both the Alexa redirect link and normal URL to any one of the Web2.0 bookmark services. For example.
![]()
7. Link your web sites and blogs no more than twice in the same pages.
8. Old fashion way to attached your web site URL and blog URL and extra Alexa redirect URL in your email and send to all your friends and ask them to click on it. You will have describe to your friends that they are helping you to make their life easier by showing them your great works on your web site and blogs.
Now, it’s time to put up some quality content about who, what, where, when, why, and how. Let’s wait and see in few weeks. Last time I realize that my other site’s PR was update is about April 4th. I believe in less thana month, Google will do mass update on PR again. Can’t wait to see how my strategies work out.
Many SEO guru also think that PR means nothing. I do agree, but with higher PR, you might get better chance for your advertisement income and drive traffic to your other sites.

Excellent advise. I found your blog via StumbleUpon and your title caught my attention long enough for me to stop stumbling, read what you wrote, and leave this comment.
Best wishes with building up your PageRank.

Thank you for stopping by. Yes. I read many positive and negative post about the Alexa redirect links. I was curious how many people will be using it or click on it.
I have Google analytic installed. So I will know if few weeks. All this experiment help me learning something new.
This is my personal blog, so I don’t expect a lot of traffic and I don’t use it for making $$$ for living anyway. If I could eventually, that will be nice. I just want to get some exposure and help others while help myself learning.
Thanks again!
