While I was researching on my next hosting provider. I was also looking into a new reliable web hosting for my client. I have decided to host my own site at ANHosting.com. And My client decided to host their site on MediaTemple.Net’s Grid Server, which costs a little bit more than ANHosting’s US$7.00. MT charges $20/M to get hosted on their Grid Servers. It’s a different hosting platform. I am not technical enough to tell you how that works, but I can tell you that my client is happy with it.

One thing it comes to my mind after move my client’s site to MT is that there grid server is not for reseller or someone wants to setup many add-on domains with their own FTP account. Grid Server give you one FTP account that access all domains. You can add up to 100 add-on domains. It’s primary for serious webmaster to fully control their own web sites or web applications.

I also heard few people complaints MT on the internet. Their Grid Server is not so stable. I can tell that the speed was not faster than ANHosting, but it’s acceptable from my point of view. It has never down since I moved the sites a month ago (April 2007). One think make me comfortable is that MT promise easy migration when it’s time to move on to higher end server. They also have MySQL container, which claims to be high performance and dedicated resource to the account.

Just like I did to ANHosting.com. I have called and called and chat with MT prior I move my client’s web site to their server. I want to make sure that their services are as good as it claims to be. I called at 3:00AM pacific time over the weekend. They have someone over there answering the phone. Although his voice sounds tired (me as well), he did answer question professionally. I was happy how capable the tech support is. He walks me through the setup process.

MT do not provide cpanel which is used in most of Linux based web hosting. However, I am technical enough to understand their interface. Just one thing that I am not so sure.

They don’t have daily backup. They have weekly backup. You will need to either pay more or to schedule your own daily backup. Since they have grid server and redundant disk storage, I don’t know if daily backup is that necessary.

Again, I give MT grid server two thumbs up!
